Despite two murders within hours of each other overnight in Las Vegas, data from police shows murders are down by 20 cases compared to the same time last year.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported 47 murder cases in 2025 as of Tuesday, compared to 67 in 2024.
The latest number includes a man shot and killed during a domestic incident early Tuesday morning in the east valley and another man murdered with a gun about three hours prior on Monday night in the northwest valley.
Metro Police listed domestic violence as the leading causative factor in murders in their jurisdiction. There are 14 cases so far compared to 11 in 2024.
The murder stat sheet listed altercation–perceived disrespect, altercation–drug or alcohol included, crime, robbery, and sexual jealousy as the other four factors behind domestic violence.
According to police, 13 of the homicides to date in 2025 are considered justifiable. That means they are ruled by self-defense by the district attorney’s office, or they are pending review.
The domestic violence incident at the 3900 block of Mountain Vista Street, near Flamingo Road, after midnight on Tuesday is considered self-defense by the department, according to a spokesperson.
The incident started as a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman, as stated by police. At some point, another man in the unit became involved. Officers arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The other man’s condition was not provided.
Sources tell News 3, the man killed was initially in the fight with a woman. The other man stepped in to help and was shot, according to sources. The man shot was able to wrestle away the gun and shoot the other man, who died.
The relationships among the three have not been shared by the police.
