Police: North Las Vegas shooting was self-defense

A man was shot Sunday evening in North Las Vegas in what police say was an act of self-defense.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. near the intersection of Losee and Craig roads in North Las Vegas.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

According to police, the shooter called 911 to report the incident. That individual remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives, according to the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Police investigators determined the shooting was justified and done in self-defense.

Neighbors and nearby business owners said the sound of gunfire startled them, raising concerns about safety in the busy corridor. Several residents noted that the intersection is heavily trafficked and often crowded, making the incident especially unsettling.

“I bring my kids to the park nearby, and hearing about a shooting so close to home is frightening,” one resident said. Others expressed frustration that violence continues to occur in areas where families shop and commute daily.

Police reassured the community that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Still, many locals said they hope to see increased patrols and stronger community engagement to prevent future violence.

Authorities added that the case will be forwarded to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office for routine review, which is standard procedure in self-defense incidents.
